JMT BPB420 – Basic Power Boating


The objective of the BPB420 is to provide boaters with the knowledge and skills necessary to become safer, more confident and competent mariners.  Fundamental seamanship, boat handling skills, and emergency boat handling is essential to every boater and the BPB220 covers the requirement to have completed a course of ten hours of practical instruction under the Code of Safety for Small Commercial Vessels.

Register

Course Description – 16 Hours

  • Berthing and unberthing
  • Coming to and weighing anchor
  • Making fast to and leaving a buoy
  • Boat maneuvering in confined waters
  • Turning short round
  • Knowledge and effect of transverse thrust
  • Use of Electronic Navigation Instruments
  • Steering a compass course and taking a rough bearing
  • Practical demonstration on the use of VHF
  • Recovery of man overboard
  • Loss of engines
  • Loss of steering ability

Admission

Candidates should have successfully completed JMTBS120 and JMTCR220

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older and in good health.  Every Candidate must submit a Registration Form completed and signed.  Deck shoes are mandatory.

Tuition

  • $1200 prepaid and required to schedule the training.
  • All costs are payable in U.S. currency only.
  • Jocelyn Maritime Training accepts Visa, Master Card and ATH payments.

Transfer / Refund Policy

Bookings cancelled less than 14 days prior to the scheduled start date may be refunded up to 50% of the tuition paid. Bookings cancelled 7 days or less will not be refunded. The candidate can register for a future course and utilize the credit towards the tuition for that course.
